The Lot 108 Phase 2 Upgrade Project represents the next step in realizing the Town of Ladysmith’s long-term vision for a vibrant, inclusive, and multi-use community park at Forrest Field. Building on the foundational work completed in Phase 1—including accessible walkway development, parking improvements, and the installation of a warm-up practice pitch—Phase 2 focuses on expanding recreational opportunities and enhancing the overall user experience for residents and visitors alike.
Guided by the 2019 Lot 108 Park Plan Update, Phase 2 will introduce several new amenities that reflect community priorities and evolving recreational trends. Planned upgrades in Phase 2 include the construction of pickleball courts, a bike skills park, and the completion of the outdoor fitness area. These additions aim to foster active lifestyles, support youth and adult sports programming, and create welcoming spaces for social connection and outdoor enjoyment.
The Town of Ladysmith continues to work closely with local stakeholder groups and service clubs to ensure the park’s development aligns with community needs and values. Through thoughtful planning and phased implementation, Lot 108 is being transformed into a destination park that contributes meaningfully to the health, well-being, and vibrancy of Ladysmith.
The funding for this project comes from Parks Reserves, Development Cost Charges, and the Canada Community-Building Fund.

Project Updates
June 1, 2026
This phase of the Lot 108 Park Plan implementation is coming to a close. In the next month the gates will be opened to the Town's first outdoor pickleball courts and official bike park. Much of the hydro seeding has been slowed due to the dry weather, however the grass on the back slope has been growing nicely that will help to stabilize the steep bank that runs parallel to the road going up to the new parking lot. The main colour has been applied to the courts with only the playing court lines to go. The anticipated completion date of this project is the end of June.
April 23, 2026
Phase 2 is progressing on schedule. Asphalt and concrete work have now been completed, with the asphalt requiring a 30-day curing period before final court surfacing can be applied.
Work on the bike park is underway, with the area currently being roughed in and feature shaping expected to begin in early May.
Erosion control has also been installed on the back slope using a specialized mix of hemp fibres and seed. This approach creates a woven blanket that helps stabilize the slope as vegetation establishes, offering a more durable solution than traditional hydroseeding.
March 30, 2026 The pickleball courts and the new upper parking area are taking shape, with concrete walkways and fencing now installed. Some unforeseen site challenges were encountered and are currently being addressed.
The bike skills park has been roughed out, and construction on Phase 1 of the bike park is expected to begin within the next couple of weeks. A sketch design of the full bike park is attached for reference. All features located within the technical loop will be included as part of Phase 1.
As each construction area is completed, site remediation will begin. This will include the replanting of more than 35 trees throughout the construction zone, along with grass and other vegetation to restore and enhance the landscape.
January 28, 2026 The outdoor fitness equipment is now installed and open for use. The contractor is on site, and site preparation and clearing are underway for the construction of the upper parking lot and pickleball courts. For safety, some trail access at the back of the site has been temporarily closed. Please respect all fencing and posted signage while work is in progress to help keep everyone safe.
